THE Earl and Countess of Mount Edgcumbe opened a railway and model society that bears their name.

The new Mount Edgcumbe Railway and Model Society has been given access to the old sawmill to house a variety of layouts from 00 gauge to G scale, plus exhibits of model boats and other model activities.

The society is open to anyone with an interest in model railways or modelling in general.

The exhibition in the sawmill will be open to the public during the Mount Edgcumbe Christmas Fair this weekend, December 9 and 10.

The society also runs, during the spring and summer, a five-inch gauge layout in the Mount Edgcumbe grounds.

Members say 2018 will see a significant improvement to the the layout, which includes electric and steam locomotives.
