A set of church bells will be coming home this week - and there’ll be a rare chance to see them on display.

The bells from St Andrew’s Church in Calstock, which were cast in 1773, were taken down from the tower in March to be refurbished at John Taylor and Co in Loughborough.

Now the £53,000 work has been done and once they’ve been delivered back to the Tamar Valley, the tricky job of replacing the bells into position will be the last task.

‘Rehanging will take around three weeks, so we hope to be back in full working order by the middle of August,’ said tower captain Sue McClaughry.

‘We do not expect the bells to be on display again for another one hundred years.’

The bells will be on show in the church building from Thursday (July 25) to Sunday between 10am and 6pm (except during services). To find out more go to www.calstockbellringers.com
