THE East Cornwall Premier League commence the 2008-9 season with an increased membership of 32 clubs. This was confirmed at the league's Annual General Meeting held at St Blazey FC on Wednesday. The league's management committee was re-elected en-bloc. The league handed out winning cheques to Torpoint Athletic, who received £400 for winning the Premier Division, plus £200 as league cup finalists, with Godolphin receiving £300 as Premier Division runners-up. Palladium Builders Merchants Division One champions St Stephen pocketed £400, with second-place Tavistock receiving £300 and League Cup winners Tamarside accepting a cheque for £300. The first-round draw of the League Cup was also made. Holders Tamarside visit Biscovey, with finalists Torpoint receiving Polperro. Saltash United meet Liskeard Athletic, Lanreath entertain newcomers St Stephens Borough, while another newcomer, St Dominick, travel to Padstow United and Tavistock face near neighbours Bere Alston United. St Blazey visit Launceston and Callington travel to St Stephen. The three other newcomers – Plymouth Parkway, Elburton Villa and Plymstock United – face road trips to Bodmin, Lifton and Roche respectively. The season commences on Saturday, August 16 and ends on Saturday, May 9.
