DESPITE being the largest town in South East Cornwall, with a population of 16,400, only 85 Saltash residents attended an exhibition which included plans for the town for the next 20 years.

Planning Cornwall's Future, which took place in Saltash Guildhall, was presented by Cornwall Council planning officers Emily Rubin and Ben Bassett.

Mr Bassett explained the proposed two options of 1,000 or 3,500 new dwellings in various part of Saltash.

Some could be on the Broadmoor area, a site once thought to be suitable for the community school to move to from its present site at Wearde.

Some exhibition visitors agreed the town centre also needs future planning, but it was felt that problems would include traffic movement and parking along Fore Street.

Several people stressed the need for more shops in the town centre, saying not everyone has cars to travel to supermarkets.

Regeneration of the waterfront was another planning issue raised, plus the future capacity of the Tamar Bridge.
