Although not a friend of the late Alan Clark MP, I found Lib Dem MP Colin Breeds dreary demolition piece in the Cornish Times on Mr Clark mean-spirited and one sided.
Yes, Mr Clark had his faults and in the last year of his very active life his judgment deteriorated.
But he was an exceptionally perceptive, intelligent, frank and perspicacious man. These are rare characteristics in a politician.
He has also been said in his constituency to have been a good constituency MP. He was an excellent writer and historian. Yes, he was ebullient and colourful. And he recognised that our membership of the European Union, upon which the Lib Dem Party is so keen, is bad for us.
He was worth more than all the Lib Dems in Parliament put together.
