Liskeard will have the same mayor next year after he used his casting vote to re-elect himself. During the mayor selection process, there was a tie in votes between the current mayor, Tony Powell, and councillor Mike George, who is also the Cornwall councillor for Liskeard South and Dobwalls. After both men received eight votes from members of the town council, the legal decision fell to cllr Powell, as the chairman of the meeting, to decide who would become mayor elect. Cllr Powell, who had already cast a vote in the election, decided in favour of himself.
