ON December 22, I lost my second most precious possession – a bracelet given to me by my husband after I survived, against all odds, life-threatening illness.
Warmest thanks to the staff of Derriford's intensive care unit, I came through the usually lethal combination of meningitis, septicaemia and double pneumonia.
My bracelet was a sort of thank-God gift to celebrate my recovery.
This bracelet comprised a combination of gold and some white gold links in a design commissioned especially and so it cannot ever be replaced.
It slipped off my wrist when I drew my glove off to pick up after one of our dogs. There was a great deal of snow on the ground then, so that, although my husband went straight back to search, the bracelet had, almost certainly, already been picked up.
I put up posters, and even offered a reward (which still stands) for its safe return, but there was no response.
That bracelet was lost six months ago and I sorely miss it to this day.
I said it was the second most precious possession in my life – well, the first was my beloved dad, gone now for almost eight years.
My bracelet was the second most precious gift because it was given to me by my beloved husband to celebrate my almost-miraculous recovery from an illness that very nearly took my life.
If you found it, and kept it, or friends or relatives of yours, staying for Christmas took it, then I don't care – I don't want to prosecute and I won't. The offer of a reward for the bracelet's return still stands to this day. You could return it anonymously – please ring the Cornish Times newsdesk on 01579 342174. We can arrange a drop-off point. Please believe me, the safe return of the bracelet is all I want. That bracelet is so very precious to me.
I can't have my dad back, but there is just an outside chance that I might still, after all this time, get my bracelet back.
If you have it – or someone you know has it – then I beg you to return it.
You can set up any sort of handover, with absolutely no danger of prosecution – I just want that precious gift from my husband back. Please.
