Beddoes ice cream

ends on high note

AFTER 15 years of tickling the tastebuds with their wonderful ice creams and sorbets, Brian and Ruth Beddoes of Polperro have retired. But they have left the ice cream industry on the highest of notes, having recently travelled to the Bristol Hilton where they were presented with the trophy in recognition of their award as National Champion Sorbet Makers, won for them with their mango flavour.

Brian says he is delighted with the award, because the competition is held under the strictest of conditions. 'The tastings are done blind by people from within the ice cream industry' he said.

Brian and Ruth began making ice cream 15 years ago, and selling it from their kiosk in the Crumplehorn car park in Polperro. Brian learned the art from Italian Luciano Cecenello, and he quickly gathered a first class reputation for his delicious products. In 1993/4 they opened their popular parlours in Looe and Polperro, and the business continued to thrive.

However the couple, who will continue to live in Polperro, have now decided it is time to retire, and are pleased to announce that the business has been taken over by Andrew and Mandy Treleaven of Herodsfoot. 'We would like to thank all our customers for their support and enjoyment of our ice cream over the years' said Brian.

Brian and Ruth Beddoes are pictured above with John James who inspired them to open their ice cream parlours in Looe and Polperro. He is the top ice cream consultant in the UK.
