Looe Luncheon
at The Dagger
THE Looe Conservative Ladies Luncheon Club held its Annual General Meeting at The Dagger Restaurant in Pelynt.
The Chairman, Mrs Margot Child, Treasurer Mrs Jill Joce and Secretary Mrs Marion Drewett resigned for various personal reasons having each held their respective positions for a number of years. Thanks were given to the retiring committee for all their hard work on behalf of the club.
It was decided that in future the Luncheon Club would be chaired by one person on a rotating annual basis and that each lunch would be organised by a different member. Mrs Shirley Shearsmith was elected to be Chairman and Mrs Janet Powell agreed to be Tresurer.
A lunch was held at the Dagger Restaurant after the AGM. The speaker on the occasion was Mr Leslie Emmett, a retired Superintendent of the Metropolitan Police at Scotland Yard.
The first lunch after the summer break will be on Thursday October 11.

Not a spare bed as
visitors poured in
FEARS that the foot and mouth crisis would keep Easter visitors away from Looe appeared to be unfounded, with the town reporting a very busy weekend.
Manager of the Tourist Information Centre, Jill Spencer, said many tourists arrived without accommodation, believing there would be plenty. 'They were surprised we were so busy' she said, 'there wasn't a spare bed to be had on our lists, anywhere in Looe'.
She said the Centre was receiving a lot of self catering enquiries for the season, with the middle of May looking extra busy, and a lot of walkers had been showing interest in which coastal footpaths were now available. She also reported their sales of tickets for The Eden Project were excellent.
At Looe Bay Holiday Village the reception manager, Sarah Mandale, said the complex had had an excellent Easter and were completely full with 1,200 visitors. 'Bookings for the rest of the year are coming in nicely' she said. August is already full, although June is a little slow'.
Local breweries expecting a fall in the number of visitors could also have been caught on the 'hop' by not stepping up productions for the Easter break as normal. At a busy Polperro, the popular Blue Peter pub could only offer the guest bitter on the Sunday, as the brewery's bitters sold out and there weren't any more supplies available!
Question time
at the council
FOR the first time in several years, members of the public will be able to ask councillors questions from the floor at the council's annual general meeting, which takes place at the Council Chamber, in the Guildhall, on Monday, May 14, from 7pm.
Previously, the public were asked to submit questions in writing before the meeting, but a decision on the new format was taken at the last town council, on the suggestion of councillor Jimmy Dingle.
The question and answer session will follow the normal meeting, the mayor choosing ceremony and the agm.
Choir sings
for farmers
POLPERRO Fishermen's Choir will be performing at Looe Community School, tomorrow (Saturday), April 28, at 7.30pm, as part of an excellent double bill with the visiting Bournemouth Male Voice Choir.
In view of the foot and mouth crisis the Fishermen's Choir say the proceeds will be forwarded to the Farmers' Appeal, and are hoping for as much support as possible.
A grand sum
for ACHE
THE Polperro ACHE ladies held a coffee morning in the Buccaneer Restaurant in the village and raised the grand sum of £168.
The Trustees of ACHE offer their thanks to the Polperro community for their support and generosity.
