Planning appeal
MR P Adams is appealing over the decision made by Caradon Planners refusing permission to allow him to retain an increased parking and turning area and an outbuilding on land situated at 2, Boundary Bungalow, St Martin's Road, East Looe.
The development was considered to adversely affect the amenity and landscape value of an Area of Great Landscape Value and a Cornwall Nature Conservation Site.
The appeal was received by the Department of the Environment on March 15 and is to be dealt with by written representation. Further representations must be received by April 26, sending three copies to the Planning Inspectorate, Department of the Environment, Tollgate House, Room 10/04, Houtlon Street, Bristol, BS2 9DJ (quote APP/Ko805/A/01/1061064).

£1,000 for
Comic Relief
PILS at Looe Community School said 'pants to poverty' in ingenious ways on Red Nose Day, wearing pants on their heads as well as outside their clothing to raise funds for Comic Relief.
Teacher Jan Woodman became a 'head turner' after she had sportingly dyed her hair bright blue after pupils raised £100 in sponsorship, and all told, after various events, including attending lessons in 'mufti', the school raised a fantastic £1,000.
Music for
all tastes

Chambers' support
for local causes
AT the annual general meeting of Looe, Polperro and District Chamber of Commerce, the chairman, Edwina Arkell, reported that during the past year a total of £1,200 had been given to various causes in the district. These had included Looe In Bloom, Coastal Hoppa Bus, Devon and Cornwall Rail Partnership (Looe Valley Line), Looe Jazz Festival, Looe Town Forum (Christmas lights), Harbour Feasibility Study, Looe Information Leaflet and Map, Ryder Lifeboat Project, RNLI, Looe Trawler Race, Polperro Festival, Terry Wright's World Transplant Games quest.
There had also been many events and projects, and a widened input into various issues. These included the supermarket application for the Millpool, to which the Chamber was opposed because they considered the site unsuitable, and current projects in the town such as the proposed outer harbour and seafront enhancement scheme which is hoped will affect the economy favourably.
Thanks were accorded the retiring members of the committee, vice chairman Dave Howells, treasurer James Studds and membership secretary Dave Peat for their enormous efforts on behalf of the Chamber. Mrs Arkell concluded by emphasising the need for members to continue speaking with one voice. 'Must it must be a loud one' she said.
Elections were: President - Tony White, chairman - Edwina Arkell, vice chairman - John Charnock, treasurer - Paul Griffiths, secretary - Rosie Leach, membership secretary - to be filled. Executive members: Robert Chisman, Dave Howells, Bill Jones, Dave Peat, Christine Smeeth, Bryan Willison. Reps. on external bodies: Caradon Area Leader 11 Ltd (Peter Higgs), Looe Town Forum (chairman and vice chairman), ELTT management group (chairman).
Bid for
car parks
TOWN councillors are to put in a bid to Caradon to ask if Looe can manage the car parks which are currently run by the district council. These are the Millpool, West Looe, and Riverside at Station Road, East Looe.
The decision was made at a meeting of the Environmental Committee on Monday, where councillors expressed the wish that the town would like to have a bigger input into car park management for the benefit of Looe.
Lemons are

Produce markets
coming to town?
THERE is to be a new initiative at the town's hugely popular Raft Race weekend, annually organised by the Looe and Polperro Chamber of Commerce, which this year takes place on Saturday/Sunday June 2-3.
For the first time there is to be a produce market, which will include fresh foods and also local crafts, which will take place on the Saturday in the large marquee to be erected on the Millpool car park area. In accordance with produce market regulations the stallholders will have to be within a 40 mile radius of the town.
This idea follows on from a presentation from Caradon's Countryside Services Officer Martin Eddy, who spoke at a recent Chamber meeting about his scheme for produce markets as a way of bringing people into town centres and supporting local producers.
The fish market area on East Looe quay has already been identified as a possible place for a bi-weekly market in the town, co-ordinated by Caradon, into which discussions are in hand with the Harbour Commissioners.
