Residents of Looe are being asked through a survey if they are prepared to pay more than £60,000 in possible extra Council Tax for long-awaited new parking restrictions in the town.
After lengthy consultation with the public, the town council has drawn up proposals for changes, known as traffic regulation orders (TROs), for various parts of East and West Looe. The total cost of all the changes has been estimated at £63,290.
‘There are a lot of good improvements within the TROs but they are going to be a lot more expensive than we first envisaged,’ said deputy mayor Martin Gregory.
‘It is a lot of money, and we’re really trying to gauge the opinion on whether it is value for money. That’s why we want absolutely everyone to take part in the survey.’
A consultation day held at the Millpool Centre earlier this month was attended by between 70 and 80 people.
An online survey will now be available to fill out for the next few weeks, the link to which is on the town council website, www.looetowncouncil.gov.uk The website contains full TROs details.
