LOOE Sailing Club's glowing reputation on the National and international stage, and an upsurge in Mirror dinghy sailing at the Buller Street club, will be officially recognised this weekend when the Western Area Mirror championships return to the port.

It is probably around 20 years since this important regatta was last held in Looe Bay – and a number of those competing then went on to become top names in the dinghy sailing world.

Looe's new commodore, Dominic Lozynski, who will also be in charge of the rescue and safety boat fleet, will welcome some 30 young helms, crews and their tiny red-sailing boats to the championships, and is expecting a healthy entry from the host club itself.

Race officer Brian Carvey is planning three back-to-back races tomorrow, starting at 1.00 pm, and a further trio on Sunday, probably with a mid-morning start.

It is expected that a boat's best five out of the six placings will determine the overall winners.

Regular club racing has been suspended for the weekend, with the exception of the blue-sailed Enterprise class which will race tomorrow morning.
