As part of its commitment to the professional training of swimming pool lifeguards, Lux Park Leisure Centre is organising a National Pool Lifeguard Qualification Course of the Royal Lifesaving Society beginning on Saturday February 12.
The course is designed for those aged 16 years and above who are physically fit, can swim well and wish to work in a swimming pool environment. It is quite a demanding course both physically and mentally and so requires a great deal of commitment from candidates. However, the course and qualification is the recognised pool lifeguarding qualification in the UK and, for those who have undertaken the course, is extremely fulfilling.
The course is a balance of theory and practical activity not only in the pool but also on land based exercises. There is no doubt that due to the experience of doing this course, individuals feel they can respond to incidents whether they work in a pool environment or not because there is a large element of emergency first aid as an integral part of the award.
The award is hours in duration spread over a umber of weekends but beginning February 12 and costs £130, including the first examination and all literature. Anyone interested in the course should contact either Scott Brown or Sara Lundun at Lux Park by telephoning 01579 342544. Lux Park Leisure Centre currently has a number of vacancies for lifeguards and other but potential lifeguards must hold a current qualification.
