Cornwall’s flagship museum throws a spotlight on life in the county during the First World War in a new exhibition.
Heart of Conflict: Cornwall’s World War One opened at the Royal Cornwall Museum yesterday and runs until the end of June.
It is staged in collaboration with the charity Bridging Arts, which has worked closely with local historians, volunteers and community groups.
Thousands of men and women left Cornwall between 1914 and 1918 to fight in France and further afield. For those left behind, these were years of privation, anxiety, grief and extraordinary sacrifice.
‘Heart of Conflict looks at how people in Cornwall kept body and soul together during those years, how they lived and how they loved,’ says Bridging Arts director Susan Roberts.
