Aidan Libby scooped three awards at Looe Cricket Club's annual dinner, held at The Hannafore Point Hotel in West Looe.

Libby was voted First Team Player of the Season, and also picked up the Young Player of the Season and Most Wickets awards.

The 17-year-old scored 609 runs at 67.67, including a magnificent maiden century against Launceston. Together with skipper Mark Grassam (564 runs at 51.27) and Pete Nance (726 runs at 60.50), Libby formed a formidable top three, which helped Looe's first team gain promotion from Division Three East of the Jolly's Cornwall Cricket League.

Libby was also one of four main bowlers who performed consistently well throughout the season – he took 31 wickets at 18.71, evergreen Robin Trethowan took 30 at 15.87, 19-year-old Adam Nance claimed 23 at 22.87 and South African Vernon du Preez 19 at 16.95.

Victory was clinched with a thrilling ten-run victory in the last over of the last game at Tideford, who would have taken Looe's promotion spot had they won.

Looe return to Division Two East for the first time since 2003, and are hoping to acquire a couple more players to bolster their squad and give it even more strength in depth.

Veteran wicketkeeper Malcolm Trethowan was the Second Team Player of the Season, while John Mason was chosen as Clubman of the Season for his work as captain of the second XI.

Although they only won three games, they did the double over near-neighbours Duloe, and managed to avoid relegation.

Most importantly, Mason was able to maintain an excellent team spirit throughout the season, and three promising 13-year-olds – Luke Lane, Liam Faulkner and Joe Boswell – all made their senior debuts and showed great promise for the future, while 17-year-old Ed Facey played some lively innings.
