Letters of the week - Bikers and new age travellers don't mix

In view of your recent article, I would like to point out that the 'Cornish Eclipse Stone Festival' is aimed at the motorcyclist and is being promoted as a motorcycle rally.

We have nothing to attract the new age traveller to our site. Our site is not offering any rave, trance or dance tents, thus avoiding the problems associated with the mainstream drug culture.

After having liaised with the police, our revised application provides enough space for only 50 cars. As your article so rightly states, our event is by booking only and we do not release the location until people have purchased their tickets.

Finally, and most significantly of all, bike events do not attract travellers. Just the reverse, travellers and bikers do not mix. This could be confirmed to you by the organizers of the annual bike rally on the Lizard, who have been holding this event for 10 years.

I think the responsible way of dealing with this problem would be for the the local authorities to provide an official site somewhere on the Moor for the travellers. I agree that the threat of travellers in this area is a real one.
