I read the article with reference to the planning application featured in last week's Cornish Times for the creation of 19 parking spaces at Trewithan House, now the headquarters of the housing management and maintenance department. Several parts of the article intrigue me, especially the section that states 'the parking spaces are proposed to be provided on the lawned area in front of the Victorian building for visitors and staff. There would be a new widened access track down to the lower garden area'. This means that a considerable amount of money is involved, i.e. digging up the lawn area, then hard coring, tarmacing, then white lining the area, not withstanding the construction of the 'new widened access track'. The access/and parking problem must be addressed for the disabled as well, to comply with new government legislation. Not to mention the lighting for such an area in the winter months but hopefully these have been taken into consideration in the costings. I am very sceptical. Knowing the "Toy Town" appearance of Caradon's headquarters existing car park, with its numerous arrows and give way signs and its lighting, even on Christmas Day and Boxing Day evenings! The cost of this, which also must be applied to the proposed new parking area, is going to be colossal! The article also states 'the plan states that this would be a temporary proposal and that the land could be returned to its original condition on the council leaving the premises'. More expense I presume? Well, it will keep Cormac out of mischief for a few months I suppose. Laying down all that tarmac etc, only having to dig it up at a later stage, whenever that be. Is the reference to the 'temporary proposal' a vague/veiled comment to the rumoured proposal of the building of new keadquarters for Caradon District Council? This is for 19 car park spaces, which the former area health offices managed without for many years. Whatever the cost, I suspect it is going to be a lot more than the refurbishment of Pike Street public toilets and such. I would like to have Caradon District Council publish the complete costing, including the reinstatement of the car park to the lawned area and other issues that I have mentioned. I dare them!
