KIT Hill Country Park, near Callington, has once again been recognised as one of the best green spaces in Cornwall with a prestigious Green Flag award. Charity Keep Britain Tidy only gives the award to parks and open spaces with the best facilities, and which are maintained to the highest standards. With 400 acres (152 hectares) of public space, Kit Hill is an ideal place for a wide range of activities including bird watching, kite flying and picnics. The park is also home to a wide range of flora and fauna, much of which depends on its heathland habitats. Edwina Hannaford, Cornwall Council's portfolio holder for environment, heritage and planning, said: 'Huge congratulations to everyone involved with Kit Hill Country Park and to all of our Green Flag winners. This is a prestigious award and I'm delighted that seven popular parks and open spaces in Cornwall have retained their Green Flag status. This is great recognition for staff and volunteers who work so hard to make sure these well-used and much-loved locations can continue to be popular with local residents and visitors of all ages.' A day of celebration was due to take place at Kit Hill yesterday to celebrate the park's recent designation as a Local Nature Reserve. The day of walks, children's activities and a picnic lunch was planned to coincide with the national 'Love Parks Week' festival.
