Famous for its fine views and fascinating history dominated by a rugged granite hilltop, Kit Hill Country Park has been designated a Local Nature Reserve. The 400-acre wild open space adds the accolade to its recently announced Green Flag Award and Green Heritage Award. The Local Nature Reserve designation offers protection to a range of species and habitats on the hill in addition to securing the provision of educational and recreational opportunities for the community. To celebrate the designation, Cormac Solutions Ltd, Cornwall Council and the Tamar Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty through the Helping Hands for Heritage Project joined together to offer a day of historic and nature related activities last Thursday. Edwina Hannaford, Cornwall Council cabinet member for Environment, Heritage and Planning, said she was 'absolutely delighted' with the designation of Kit Hill as a Local Nature Reserve. 'It's the culmination of years of work on the hill and will bring added protection to a unique landmark,' she said. Another event is due to take place at Kit Hill on Sunday, August 24. This will include a walk with the ranger; experts looking at the archaeological features and projects planned for the next year.
