Today’s Honey Fair in Callington has got even bigger and better this year – and the Lions are promising a day filled to the brim with stalls, entertainment, competitions and fun activities.
The event, which dates back to the 13th century, was revived in the 1970s, and already has a reputation as one of the largest and most popular traditional fairs in Cornwall.
This year, say the Lions, more street space has been allocated, and with 100 stalls or more, there will be plenty for everyone to browse.
Look out for colourful and imaginative displays in shop windows; traders in Callington always pull out all the stops for the annual competition, and this year’s theme is ‘A decade in our Queen’s reign’.
Inside the Town Hall will be the ever popular Cornwall Bee Keepers displays, including live bees and honey products.
Take time for a ‘cream tea with the bees’ and admire the giant display of artwork by pupils from local schools; organisers are hoping to beat last year’s record of 800 entries to the children’s art competition.
A model craft exhibition and local groups with their stalls will provide further interest.
Outside the Town Hall will be the hotly contested Town Crier competition, an owl display, and live music at various times during the day.
