Twins Rob and Kennan Fowlie from Common Moor competed in the International Tetrathlon Championships, held at Hartpury College in Gloucester.

The four-phase competition – which featured competitors from as far away as the USA, Canada and Ireland – consists of pistol shooting, swimming, cross-country running and cross-country on horseback over Hartpury's testing course. The 17-year-olds fared well in the senior class, achieving personal bests in the swim phase – Rob actually gained PBs in all four phases, and was awarded top place for his score of 940 in the shooting event.

Both riding new horses, they had mixed fortunes as Kennan lost valuable points at the 16th on his new horse Mountgarry, while Rob recorded a score of 1,395 out of a possible 1,400 on his new horse Kalmoojid. In the end Rob achieved tenth place with a score of 4,270, and was awarded a silver medal for his efforts.

The top six places went to participants from outside the UK who, unlike the British competitors, are funded by their national sports bodies.

Both intend to take part again next year, along with a move to the Modern Pentathlon – if funds allow.International field fails to phase twins
