In common with every body else in the area I have recently received my new Council Tax bill.

The increase over last year is many times the rate of inflation despite ever diminishing service. The roads are rarely swept, the Police are always telling us that they do not have the resources to perform effectively, it is only because of a massive public outcry combined with intervention from Westminster that our local hospital is still functioning.

In addition to these we are unable to move in Saltash without being endangered by those working for Eurobell and have usually to queue for ages before being able to cross the bridge to Plymouth.

Public transport may as well not exist as it is clearly organised for the benefit of bureaucrats and not the travelling public and to cap it all someone must have given planning permission for the monstrosity that has sprung up to obliterate Roger Young Landrovers (clearly designed by a cricket sight screen engineer).

Our councillors, both Caradon and County, should resign immediately and make way for new representatives who are able to control public spending and keep increases in future within reasonable bounds. Perhaps the first saving would be the scrapping of the newspapers that Caradon send out regularly at God knows what cost.

Wouldn't it be nice if just once in a while Council Tax bills reduced due to the efficient running of local government!
