Colwith Farm Distillery is offering its waste alcohol for free during the coronavirus pandemic

In response to a shortage of hand sanitiser, Colwith Farm Distillery near Lostwithiel has announced that it will be giving away its waste spirit – being dubbed ‘Colwith Spirit 60%’ – for free to those in need.

From Monday, between 10am and 2pm (whilst stocks last), those in need are invited to visit the distillery shop at Pelyn Cross, Lanlivery to fill their own containers with 100ml of 60 per cent alcohol solution for free. Charitable donations are welcome and will be gifted to a chosen charity nominated by customers.

Founder Steve Dustow said: ’As part of our plough to bottle distilling process, we produce a small proportion of alcohol not pure enough for our award-winning spirits. Typically, this alcohol is used in the distillery for cleaning and sterilisation purposes. In light of the coronavirus pandemic, we want to do everything we can to help people in this uncertain time and so have decided to give this away.’

The distillery would like to assure members of the public that they will follow government guidelines in order to protect anyone visiting the distillery to collect the spirit.

As an extra sweetener to anyone self-isolating at home, the distillery is also offering a 15 per cent discount on sales from their online shop, along with free delivery. Enter code COLWITHSPIRIT15 at checkout. www.colwithfarmdistillery.co.uk
