VOUNTEERS and medical staff have been thanked after the East Cornwall Primary Care Network finished its final day of vaccinations at Pensilva’s Millennium House.

The clinic set up to offer the jab to the most vulnerable and older patients began operations on January 14 and finished on Tuesday.

Across the Network as a whole, almost 89,000 doses of the Covid-19 vaccine have been given.

Dr Penny Atkinson, clinical director for the East Cornwall Primary Care Network (PCN), said: "The GP-led team providing the vaccination service across east Cornwall PCN is extremely proud that together we have given nearly 89,000 first and second doses of the vaccine to our most vulnerable patients in cohorts 1-9.

"I would like to thank all my colleagues who have worked tirelessly to deliver the COVID vaccine. I would also like to give my heartfelt thanks to the 100 volunteers, our parish and town council and the China Fleet Club, who have pulled out all the stops to help us deliver the vaccine – we couldn’t have done it without you.

“Marlene Carr and Martin Green at Millennium House have been absolute stars with their help, support and care come rain and shine, and I wish to extend a special thank you to them both.”

Throughout the four-month programme, local supermarkets have provided volunteers with food and drink.

Volunteers have provided car parking duties and have guided people to their vaccinations as well as providing vaccinations where they have an appropriate health background and training.

From now on, patients still requiring vaccination will be able to access other local vaccination services including hospital hubs, community pharmacies and larger vaccination centres which are now in place to deliver this service – including the larger sites at The Royal Cornwall Showground in Wadebridge, Stithians Showground, Home Park, Plymouth and Derriford Hospital, Plymouth.

This will allow GP practice teams to fully focus their time on their usual services to patients: however, Old Bridge Surgery, Looe, and Tamar Valley Health, Callington, will continue to deliver vaccines.

Pharmacies offering the vaccination include Devonport Pharmacy at Plymouth Albion, Brickfields Recreation Ground.

To book an appointment use the NHS online booking service at www.nhs.uk/covid-vaccination or call 119. A range of vaccines suitable for different age groups are available.
