A PUB in the Tamar Valley has closed until after several customers reported having testing positive for Covid-19.

The landlords of the Rifle Volunteer in St Ann’s Chapel posted online that while they weren’t obliged to close, they felt it was the best thing to do.

“We are very sorry to inform our customers that we have taken the decision to close with immediate effect and will not reopen until after Christmas,” they said.

“We have had several customers call to let us know that they have had a positive test for Covid 19.

“This is not an easy decision to make but to keep our customers and staff as safe as possible, especially at this time of year when they would be spending time with their families, we feel that this is the best thing to do.

“Whilst following discussion with Public Health England we do not need to close, we have always taken great care with customer and staff safety and feel that with the pub likely to be very busy over the next couple of weeks, it’s a sensible precaution to take.

“We wish all our customers a happy and safe Christmas and hope to welcome you back soon.”
