A cancer charity is providing support from counsellors and psychologists to people across Cornwall dealing with the emotional fallout of illness.

Macmillan Cancer Support says that people living with cancer and their families can access the service at the Cove centre in Truro’s Royal Cornwall Hospital.

The charity has also offered tips to anyone feeling they can’t cope.

’Over 70% of people who have a cancer diagnosis need emotional support at some point in their cancer experience. This might include how to cope with stress,’ said a spokesperson.

’As April is Stress Awareness Month, the team at the Cove are sharing some tips to help.’

- Remember that feeling stressed is understandable when you or a loved one is affected by cancer.

- Are you looking after yourself? This includes diet, sleep, physical activity and rest.

- What usually helps? There may be something you can do right now even if it is something small.

- Seek help and support. The team at the Cove are available to help you by providing a listening ear, information, group sessions and/or a referral to a psychologist, counsellor, physiotherapist, dietician, benefits advisers or another service at the hospital or in the community
