Members of a self-help group set up in South East Cornwall more than ten years ago have taken fresh steps in their efforts to help patients.
Liskeard and South East Cornwall Breathers group was set up in 2006 by a few patients with COPD (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease).
Now the group, which meets at the Liskerrett Centre in Liskeard every Tuesday afternoon, runs many projects in Cornwall for COPD sufferers.
In 2015 one of the members, Suzanne (Sue) Caley came up with the idea of a booklet containing a variety of useful information for Cornish sufferers of COPD, that could be distributed to surgeries and hospitals throughout the county.
The group gave her the go-ahead and she threw herself into the project with great enthusiasm, obtaining a grant from the Lottery Foundation to cover the cost of publishing and distribution and setting about collecting information for the booklet.
Sadly, Sue died of her illness in 2016 and never saw the results of her labours. Members say she will be sadly missed.
However, the group managed to complete the work she had begun and have had 15,000 copies of the booklet printed.
And last week, the booklet was officially launched at Liskeard Hospital.
It will now be distributed across the county.
