A NEW audiology hub offering specialist hearing care and state-of-the-art facilities has opened in Saltash, giving local residents access to a range of services without having to travel further afield.

The Specsavers Saltash hub will provide free hearing checks, hearing device fittings and maintenance, as well as professional ear wax removal.

The service is being led by audiology director Rebecca Smith, who has worked for Specsavers for 12 years, qualifying as a hearcare assistant in 2014 before becoming a hearing aid audiologist in 2016.

She said: “We’re really pleased to announce the expansion of our services with the launch of the hearing hub. We’re regularly asked about audiology in our store, so we know this will be a significant service for the town and the communities nearby.”

The purpose-built facility includes a sound-treated room, the latest hearing technology and a dedicated administration team to handle appointments.

Ms Smith said the aim was to provide a one-stop service for people experiencing hearing difficulties, from initial checks through to fitting devices and ongoing support.

“Our team have lived and worked in the area for years, so they understand how important a purpose-made service like this will be for residents,” she added. “Everyone’s hearing changes over time – it’s perfectly normal – so we know just how important it is to provide hearing care services.

“If anyone thinks they may need a bit of help to recover the sounds that they’ve been missing, it all starts with a hearing check.”

Audiologists will also help customers understand changes in their hearing and whether a hearing device could improve their quality of life.

Ms Smith said: “Everyone’s hearing is different and it’s important to tailor hearing devices so that they meet the person’s needs perfectly. We also provide an aftercare package to make sure people are fully supported afterwards.”

The service is available seven days a week.
