People who’ve lost their jobs in retail, hospitality or leisure are being encouraged to apply for care sector jobs as Cornwall Council looks to fill a huge shortfall in staff in the sector.
There are around 1,000 vacancies in care at the moment, says Cornwall’s Cabinet member for Adults Rob Rotchell, who said that the council is keen to hear from people who might not have considered a career in care before.
People who might have previously worked in retail or hospitality could be a good fit for some of the roles that are available, he says.
“We have launched a major recruitment campaign – Cornwall Needs You Now,” said Cllr Rotchell.
“We have 1,000 vacancies in the care sector, permanent, temporary, full and part time.”
He added: “We particularly welcome those who have worked in retail, hospitality and leisure-based roles. There are many roles for those with less or no previous experience.
“The right values and attributes are the most important things that we need.
“All roles offer full training and support for those new to the sector, PPE is provided by employers.”
At a time when there are such a lot of jobs to fill, there’s also increasing demand for care services as a result of the pandemic.
The Council would also welcome enquiries from those who have previously worked in care and want to return.
A new website has been launched to provide information and details of the vacancies available. It can be found at www.proudtocarecornwall.org.uk
