Jeff Penhaligon, a well-known man for more than 20 years as a harbourmaster in Cornish waters, has retired from duty.

His position as Looe Harbourmaster has been taken up by the Harbour Commissioners’ own Chief Executive since 2004, Tina Hicks, who will combine both roles.

Known affectionately along the quays as ‘Captain Birdseye’, Jeff, who has lived in the town for 37 years, had previously spent a decade as harbourmaster at St Mary’s on the Isles of Scilly, before taking up his post in Looe in 2005, following on from Ted Webb.
