MEMBERS of a company in Callington have competed in a gruelling competition in the Lake District to raise money for charity. The wild south-westerners team from Ginsters in Callington took part in a tough 12-hour challenge organised by Cornwall Samworth Brothers, who own the company and other sites in Cornwall. A total of 16 teams from Samworth Brother sites took part in the challenge, which involved cycling 32km, a 10km canoe race and a 13km trek via Helvellyn, the third highest peak in England, all to be done within 12 hours. Samantha Brown, Steve Smeeth, Nicky Taylor and Phil Clark made up the team from Ginsters, which completed the task in ten-and-a-half hours and raised £1,700 for Mustard Tree Macmillan Cancer Support Care. Samantha Brown was aching after she gave her all in the wet and windy conditions. She said: 'We're all tired and covered in blisters. The weather conditions made the challenge very tough. The canoeing was the hardest because of the wind. At one stage we were paddling for 20 minutes but going nowhere, which was very frustrating.' The event followed a previous charity challenge in June, and both raised a combined total of £260,000 for charity. Emma Musson, who helped organise the event, said: We're so pleased that we have been able to raise such a significant amount of money for so many worthwhile charities.'
