A TEAM of friends who teed off at sunrise for the “Longest Golf Day” challenge have raised around £3,600 for Macmillan Cancer Support.

Tim Powell, Chris Arthur, Charlie Brown, and Ashley Thorp set off on the Lanhydrock Golf Club course at 4.50am and finished their fourth round and 72nd hole at 8pm.

The team’s families surprised them at the last hole by being there to cheer them all on as they finished.

With glorious sunshine on the day, it was the heat the friends had to contend with as they walked some 20 miles around the course.

The team would like to thank Alistair and the team at Lanhydrock Hotel and Golf Club, who let the team use the course and contributed towards their green fees on the day.

Many local businesses had kindly donated raffle prizes to help boost the fundraising and the winners were drawn on Facebook Live from the Cheesewring Hotel.

Companies who generously sponsored the event were:?Fred Champion Groundworks Ltd, Burcombe Haulage, D Hall Plant Hire and Groundworks, Harvey Body Repairs, Wagner Plant Ltd, the Cheesewring Hotel and BS Embroidery Plus.

“So far the amount raised on the page is £3,590, so we have smashed our target of £2,500 thanks to the generosity and kind support of everyone in the local community.”
