Winter

league

THERE was an exciting climax to this season's Winter League - going into the 10th and final round (the competition having been severely curtailed by the winter weather), any one of six players could come through to take the Trophy - but the three clear favourites were Pete Densham, Malcolm Tate and John Rowe all sharing the lead on 14 points.

Proper, bitterly cold conditions greeted the players for this final round. The first of the leaders into the Club House was County Secretary - John Rowe, although his score, whilst being steady was not anticipated to be enough to enhance his position A few minutes later Malcolm Tate completed his round with a promising score which improved his position just enough to take him in front albeit only for a few minutes, for Pete Densham returned exactly the same score as Malcolm to grab a share of the lead.

It looked to be all over - but in the final group on the course, with the final putt of the competition in came Martin Turner with a better score on the day than either Mal or Pete, which meant there was still a three way tie for the Winter League. But Martin Turner takes the Winter League Trophy by virtue of his first placing in this final round, with all three sharing the spoils in first place.

Roger Catterall has never been far away all winter takes second place, whilst Brian Turner and John Rowe share third spot. Ed Goodaire took fourth place, whilst in fifth spot were father and son combination of Brian and Paul Shiel, with Norman Hill-Male and Cain Hough in joint sixth place. Steve Drake, Danny Lewis, Keith Warren - early six points seperated the first 14 players.

On the day in the 10th and final round Brian Hodge and Terry Taroni together with Norman Hill-Male and Martin Turner finished in first place - an excellent score in difficult conditions, with four pairs in joint second place on 37 points.
