Caradon's second string fielded a new-look team for their first game of the 2010-11 campaign, boasting a mix of youth and experience.

The players took to the pitch under captain Helen Manley's direction. They gelled well from the start, displaying flowing hockey and good supporting play, particularly from Manley and Becky Strang through the central area.

The opener arrived inside five minutes as Michelle Giddy bagged her first of the afternoon, sweeping in from a penetrating cross across the D.

The Caradon attack continued to dominate and Giddy couldn't believe her good fortune as the supply of crosses and rebounds, combined with her excellent positioning, allowed her to add three more before half-time.

The second period continued in much the same vein, although some determined defending from the oppo-sition meant it was late in

to the second half before Caradon added to their total.

A super cross from FleurWorden on the right found defender Nicky Wood free in the D and she finished in style with a shot that Andrew Strauss would have been proud of.

Caradon IIs will be looking to build on this suc-

cess tomorrow  when they travel to Lipson for a midday pushback against Plymouth University's seconds.
