Local 'wreck' to star in film

A 'WRECK' built in Charlestown, around St Austell Bay from Par, is to be transported to Cuba to be used in a French film company's production of 'Robinson Crusoe'.

The supposed wreck of a tall ship has been built by the Square Sail Shipyard at Charlestown, and was constructed so it could be taken to pieces and flat-packed for transportation to Cuba.

The company wanted two tall ships, one depicting the vessel whole, the other the ship when it had been wrecked. The wreck was built at Charlestown by six workers over a four-week period.

Some filming for the production is to take place at Charlestown in August.

Summer run for ferry

THE Fowey to Mevagissey passenger ferry, 35-seater 'Hanibal James', has now begun its summer season.

The ferry leaves Fowey at Whitehouse Quay and Mevagissey at Lighthouse Quay.
