Parties and Jubilee fireworks

GOLDEN Jubilee celebrations in Fowey will begin with the peeling of the bells of St Fimbarrus church on June 3 at midday, followed by children's entertainment on the town quay.

Added to this there will be street parties and a Fowey River Lions' party organised on the town quay. A committee chaired by local councillor Arthur Baker has ensured there will be a Last Night Of The Proms event by St Austell Band, and fireworks for which money has been provided by The Chamber of Commerce and the three main hotels in Fowey.

Motorists can park in Brewery Field off Hanson Drive, to be run by the Friends of St Fimbarrus who are raising money for the church restoration fund.

Fowey WPC

THE Cornish Times' billboards around the streets of Fowey last week stated the town has a new community constable by the name of PC Dave Street. This is, of course, incorrect as at Fowey it is WPC Della James, and PC Street is in fact the new constable for Lostwithiel and Lanlivery.

THE speaker at the St Fimbarrus Men's Breakfast, held at the Toll Bar in Fowey on Saturday, was Rev (Squadron Leader) Andrew Jones from RAF St Mawgan.

Rev Jones spoke about his spiritual life, from Wales and monasteries via some unusual sports to Cornwall.
