Volunteers from Grace Community Church at Morval have re-arranged their Christmas Day to host a lunch for residents originally from overseas. Aware of the large number of residents from overseas now living in South East Cornwall, residents originally from Italy, USA, Poland and South Africa have indicated their intention to attend, but there is plenty of room for others at noon on Christmas Day in the church buildings. Cooking facilities at the church are limited, so guests and helpers are invited to bring a national dish from their homeland to warm and share (the church will offer visitors up to £5 per head to cover the cost of ingredients). Guests are also being asked to bring a flag from their homeland, and any who come in national costume will have an even warmer welcome. The lunch is not a church service – the normal Christmas day service will be at 10am – but is an opportunity to make new friends, practice some English and join in some traditional 'silly games' after the Christmas fare. Anyone in South East Cornwall who originally lived overseas but is now a temporary or permanent resident is welcome to attend and should phone Peggy Penhaligan on 01503 220616. Invitations are available in English and Polish.
