Cornwall League Cup Final
Dobwalls 3
Falmouth Town 0
Dobwalls showed just why they are going to be a force to be reckoned with next season after claiming the Division One Cup with victory over a Falmouth outfit who last week beat Cornwall League champions Roche 4-0.
They took control straight from the kick-off and, with manager Steve Lee having a full squad to select from for the first time, they never looked like losing.
It took just four minutes for Dobwalls to break the deadlock when top-scorer Faye Hankinson, latched onto a loose ball to produce a clinical finish.
Dobwalls knew that to win this final they had to deal with the threat of the League's leading scorer, Sasha Sparkes, but they had no worries as central defenders Tamsyn Lawrie and Amy Rigby were outstanding.
The 35-goal striker hardly had a look in and, when she did find herself in a shooting position, defenders threw themselves into the challenge to snuff out any goalscoring opportunity.
Dobwalls' strike duo, Hankinson and Ange Fletcher, were causing havoc in the Falmouth defence – and it came as no surprise for the latter to fire home from six yards to increase their side's advantage. The score could have been greater, but for Hankinson twice firing narrowly wide.
Falmouth stepped up the pace in the second period, and were unfortunate not to reduce the arrears when a shot landed on top of the crossbar.
Davey was also kept busy with some good saves.
Substitute Lucy Borthwick could have scored a hat-trick in as many minutes as her strength and power ended with a great shot being saved and two others going narrowly wide.
And it was Borthwick who laid on the perfect pass for Fletcher to fire the ball past the advancing goalkeeper for her second goal and Dobwalls' third... and the Cup was theirs.
