A NEW film produced by Cornwall Wildlife Trust and voiced by charismatic Cornish comedian Kernow King has been selected as a finalist in the charity film category at the world’s biggest sustainability film festival.

Creating a Cornwall Where Nature Thrives has been shortlisted as part of a United Nations Sustainable Development Goals commitment at the 2026 Big Syn International Film Festival in London, which runs runs from October 16 to 25. Special mentions and winners will be announced at a gala awards ceremony at Curzon Soho in London on November 6.

Made in collaboration with Falmouth media company Bull & Wolf, the film shows both the beauty of Cornwall and the threats facing the natural world. The UK is one of the most nature-depleted countries in the world; Cornwall Wildlife Trust's own 2020 State of Nature report found that nature is largely in decline in the Duchy, with 12 per cent of species of principal importance threatened with local extinction, and nearly half of terrestrial mammals and three-fifths of butterflies found in fewer places than 30 years ago.

Faye Treffry, brand and communications manager at Cornwall Wildlife Trust said: “At its core, the film is a call to arms: nature is in trouble and needs our help, and we can all make a difference.

“We wanted to tell the story of who we are at Cornwall Wildlife Trust and inspire more people to see how they can get involved and help make a difference.”

The film will be screened at WTW cinemas in Truro, Newquay, Wadebridge and St Austell from today (Friday, October 16), running through October and November, thanks to support from the cinema group. "When we saw the first cut of the new film, we knew it would look amazing on the big screen,” said Faye. “It's a cinematic piece we hope people across Cornwall will love."
