I have travelled to England to secure a residential home placement for an elderly lady returning to her home district after many years in Europe.
After much enquiry and research, I have been surprised to find out that one residential home I know of is increasing its charges by almost 12 per cent from April. There are also two annual reviews planned.
The much-vaunted benefits culture in England certainly has its merits, however, many residents in residential and nursing care homes will find that, without benefits, their independent sources of income may lead to them making some most distressing and imminent decisions.
Once again the debate over the sale of assets to fund care for the thrifty and hardworking savers of yesteryear continues to shame us all.
Why would any hardworking individual see any sense in saving for retirement?
Where is the even-handed fairness that has been the embodiment of all that made this once great and caring country the envy of the world?
