New academy trusts will have to be found for several local schools as a troubled multi-academy trust negotiates a new future in Cornwall.
The Adventure Learning Academy Trust (ALAT) manages Fowey’s secondary school as well as primaries at Liskeard Hillfort, Altarnun, Tywardreath, and Gulval.
The Trust was recently the subject of a BBC Panorama investigation into alleged false claims for government funding.
A new interim board of trustees and executive leadership team have recently been appointed to ALAT, but the trustees have voted for the schools under their care to be re-brokered.
This means that new academy trusts will have to be found to sponsor all five schools, and it will be down to the Regional Schools Commissioner and the Department for Education to decide which trust or trusts will take them on.
Angela Barry, interim chief executive officer of the Adventure Learning Academy Trust, said: ‘It is absolutely right that ALAT’s academies are able to start afresh.
‘This will be a new chapter for each of them, under strong and well-run academy trusts.’
