Time is running out for parents of children, who are due to start school in September 2020, to apply for their place in a reception class.

All applications for reception children (ie. those who were born between September 1, 2015 and August 31, 2016) must be submitted by midnight on January 15, 2020.

Parents and carers still need to apply for a school place even if their child currently attends the school’s nursery or pre-school setting or they have expressed an interest in attending the school.

However, parents and carers of children with an Education Health and Care Plan (EHC Plan) do not need to complete an application form, they will be supported by the Statutory SEN Service,

Sally Hawken, the Council’s Cabinet Member for Children and Wellbeing, is encouraging parents and carers to apply on time and to list more than one preference.

She said: ‘It is really important for parents to get their applications in before the January 15 deadline. Applying late means that their preferred schools may already be full.  We also want to stress to parents that we strongly recommend listing three preferences on the application form.  Naming a second or third preference does not give you any less chance of getting a place at your preferred school.’

The online application facility is available on the Council’s website at www.cornwall.gov.uk/admissions.

Any parent or carer who does not have access to a computer can visit a One Stop Shop or Library or use the paper form available from the School Admissions Team by telephoning 0300 1234 101.

For support with making an application, the Family Information Service can also help on 0800 587 8191.
