PARENTS and carers are being asked for their views on Special Educational Needs (SEN) provision for children and young people in Cornwall as part of a review by Cornwall Council. More than 2,000 children and young people in the county have a statement of special educational needs or an Education, Health and Care (EHC) plan setting out requirements enabling them to achieve their potential. The council is seeking views of parents, carers and young people about what works and what needs changing. Last year the council carried out a survey and feedback from this was then analysed by independent consultants Indigo Children’s Services, with the results being used to help develop a set of priorities. The council is now seeking the views of key stakeholders on these priorities. ‘We want people to tell us what they think about the priorities which have emerged from the stakeholder feedback and the wider analysis of a range of data and evidence,’ said Andrew Wallis, Cornwall Council’s Cabinet Member for Children and Young People. ‘Following the end of this second phase of consultation, we expect an implementation plan to be completed by April 2016 providing a clear direction for the service.’ To take part in the online survey, see website www.cornwall.gov.uk/senreview
