BODMIN’S Callywith College is celebrating the news that it has been ranked the best performing establishment in the country.
The college has an achievement rate higher than any of the 81 other sixth form and 16-19 free schools in England, according to data released by the Department for Education.
Callywith opened in September 2017 and achieved an overall A-Level pass rate of 100% in its first set of results last year.
Prinicpal Jon Grey has praised the approach of all the students and staff in responding to the lockdown changes.
Since March 23, each of the timetabled lessons have been delivered online, and prospective entrants are having full interviews by phone and video.
’The commitment and resilience shown by students and staff to not let the restrictions imposed upon us by the coronavirus impact on learning, communication and college spirit, has been quite incredible,’ he said.
Some of the highlights of the new online college include chemistry students singing happy birthday to one another, shared study space selfies, and a Stay At Home Challenge to kick, throw or headbutt a toilet roll to one another through the power of video.
The college says it is focusing on the wellbeing of students and making sure noone feels isolated.
’Please look after yourselves and your loved ones and stay focused on the future when this situation has passed. You will be able to take all you have learned from completing your time at Callywith College into your successful futures.’
