It was all hands on deck as local students were put through their paces during a visit to the Navy training facility HMS Raleigh.
Military Academy students from Duchy College Stoke Climsland, the only college in the UK to attend a phase one or initial training establishment on a regular basis, had an insight into life in the Royal Navy.
During this first visit of the year, students started with a briefing from the initial training group. They are responsible for the Phase 1 training of Royal Navy recruits.
The students then visited the accommodation, the ‘mess decks’, focusing on how the recruits progress.
They tried foot drill and the Royal Navy Fitness Test (RNFT) with the Royal Navy Physical Training Instructors (PTIs).
Level 3 Military Academy student, Keiran Jeffries, from Liskeard, said the training was a ‘really good insight into what phase one training in the Armed Forces is going to be like’.
He said: ‘We learnt a lot about training, including the locker layouts, the drill and PT sessions they have to do - I really enjoyed it.’
