South Petherwin v Callington
Callington completed a winning double over local rivals S Petherwin on Sunday to keep their promotion chase alive.
Despite the very hot weather runs on a very green wicket were always going to be hard to get. Petherwin won the toss and elected to bat and looked to be on top with Paul and Dave Clements taking them to 46-1 off 14 overs.
When both fell in consecutive overs it was left to Ian Clements and Roger Gerry to carry on the good work. When Clements fell for 18 it was time for the introduction of Ian Birch and Simon Farris to wipe out the tail. In eight overs they took the last five wickets including Gerry for 19 to leave S Petherwin all out for 125 with Mr Extras top scorer on 29.
Callington's reply, especially against the nagging accuracy of Paul Clements, was slow going and after 13 overs they were 23-2. Simon Fitze and Steve Wyatt then added 50 in eight overs to put Callington back on top until Clements removed Wyatt for 31.
When Fitze went soon after for 28 panic set in and Clements took two further wickets aided by 16-y-o Liam Tilley to reduce Callington to 103-7.
Fortunately for Callington the youth of Farris combined with the experience of Jon Nicholls saw Callington win by three wkts with 11 overs to spare. For S Petherwin Clements took 5-41 in his 16 overs.
