Werrington III v St. Neot
St Neot travelled to Werrington and were all set to make amends for the abandoned game earlier in the season. A batting track greeted them and AK elected to bat on winning the toss.
The opening partnership of A. Kent and K. Marks started in fine fashion as boundaries a plenty flowed from their pieces of willow. AK in particular, finding a fast outfield to his liking. The opening bowlers of Hicks and Baker were replaced by Wills and Orchard and it wasn't long before the break-through was made as AK failed to get bat on ball and was given out lbw. N. Searle and Marks continued to keep the board ticking over, albeit it slightly slower than before but that is to be expected with Searle at the crease!
With the score on 94 and just before drinks the introduction of Banks was an inspired decision by the Werrington captain as second ball he had Marks lbw. After drinks Bunt and Searle nudged the score upwards until Searle played into points' hands off Banks. Tamblyn, Pearce, Clapham and Rowe all made brief visits to the crease with Pearce spending the least time, one ball in fact. It was left to the dependable GK and I. Fraser, who had forgotten what a bat looked like, to steer the innings to a close and to gain maximum batting points of the last ball. The Taverners had finished on 203 for 8.
Confident of defending the total St. Neot opened the bowling with Fraser and Bunt. It wasn't too long before Fraser was amongst the wickets as he bowled Baker and then Sakis. Bunt weighed in with a wicket bowling Wills to leave Werrington on 23 for 3. Brief resistance was meet from Skinner and Hicks who both found the boundary on regular occasions to keep the score board ticking over Pearce replaced Bunt and Fraser, who sensed that his spell might come to an end, upped the stakes and took three more wickets as the innings started to fall apart.
Pearce, not to be out done took two wickets in his lively but inaccurate spell. With one wicket remaining and the score on 83, it was left to O'Brien, who had talked himself into a bowl to finish Werrington off thanks to a typical AK catch in the deep.
