Inserted to face the new ball on a rain-affected pitch, Callington Ivies struggled early on. Skipper Kev Borlase grafted, finding an ally in the fluent Sam Graber, who went on to anchor the innings admirably. With good scoring from Steve Lees, Paul Sykes and Sam Stewart, the score built up encouragingly. The icing on the cake came from Will Craven, hitting an undefeated 25 in seven balls. Martin Cornish and the visiting bowlers had been put to the sword after all.
The all-slow Ivies attack was opened in miserly fashionwho both made early inroads. Resistance from Cornish, then a stubborn flourish by skipper Chris Young and his fellow veteran Terry Goodyer was ended by Borlase and Adrian Pearce, who bowled good spells before Pemberton drove in the final nail. All the Callington bowlers were aided by phenomenal wicket-keeping by Steve Lees and - at last - some excellent catching!
