Callington v St Buryan

This was a rain-affected game, reduced to 38 overs-a-side after heavy showers in the afternoon. Having been invited to bat, Buryan got off to a solid start before Carl Gazzard was snapped up by Andy Snowdon in the slips. After that, Callington and Andy Brenton held the whip hand, and the visitors were struggling on 58 for four after 20 overs.

Andy Pengelly made 29 and then brothers Nigel and Mark George put together a partnership of 83 with George making 32 and Pengelly remaining unbeaten on 36, as St Buryan set a target of 135 to win. Brenton took out the first four batsmen for 67 runs, with Sylvester taking the other wicket to fall.

As the Callington reply began to take shape, it was clear that they were again suffering from Sunday syndrome, as one-by-one they followed each other back to the dressing with heads bowed. Only Snowdon, who scored 26, offered any resistance, and he couldn't hit the ball off the square. Having said that, St Buryan bowled well with spinner Shakil Ahmed taking four for 24 and Nick George five for 21 from the car park end. This result leaves St Buryan looking good for the title, and Callington still looking over their shoulders.
