Upon winning the toss St Neot elected to bat on an inviting looking wicket. A Kent and K Nicholls carried on their impressive early season form by forging another solid platform.
AK in particular looks to have benefited from winter coaching developing some limited off-side shots. At drinks they had amassed 83 runs before Nicholls allowed the number three to enter the crease and soon after AK departed for a well constructed 49. Clapham scratching around for form allowed the impressive Tamblyn to race to 11 before he holed out allowing Pearce to bring a touch of class to the occasion with an array of attacking shots. This stunned Clapham into life and they took the score past 200. Pearce then fell for the old straight ball trick and left his defences open to leave the Taverners at 216-4.
In reply, Bugle started steadily against the niggling inaccuracy of Bunt and I Fraser. It took the introduction of D Fraser to rip through the middle order, albeit with the element of luck. This left the Taverners well on top with Bugle at 73-8. Sensible batting allied with a range of rusty bowling saw Bugle threaten momentarily before D and I Fraser returned to mop up the last two wickets.
Scores - St Neot 216-4 (M Pearce 55; C Clapham 54 n.o.; A Kent 49; K Nicholls 34; A Tamblyn 11).
Bugle 133 (D Fraser 6-25; I Fraser 2-31).
St Neot (20 pts) beat Bugle (five) by 83 runs.
